A NEW (AND MUCH-NEEDED) BALENCIAGA SS26

Pierpaolo Piccioli

In a historic season marked by a wave of creative director debuts, fashion finds itself in a moment of rediscovery—one where archives reclaim vital importance and the visions of new designers seek permanence and legacy. At the Spring/Summer 2026 Womenswear show, Pierpaolo Piccioli unveiled a new side of Balenciaga: a breath of fresh air the brand’s admirers had been longing for.

In this new chapter, written with grace, Pierpaolo revisits the archives of Cristóbal Balenciaga and interprets them with refinement, sensitivity, and precision—leaving behind the provocation that defined Demna’s era. Balenciaga returns to its essence: a story of emotion and couture under the name The Heartbeat.

The house’s classic constructions make a comeback—cocoon dresses and coat-dresses nod to its past while hinting at a modern revival. What matters most here is honoring the emotions that have shaped the maison and welcoming them into a new home—one that moves seamlessly from streetwear to evening gowns, sometimes uniting both worlds in a single gesture.

Piccioli was unafraid to play with texture and bold combinations, reminding us that he has always known exactly what he’s provoking. Oversized shirts with open skirts, cropped jackets paired with statement pieces, and perfectly tailored pants adorned with three-dimensional monochrome florals lead us on a journey to another planet.

Because, in truth, Balenciaga has always felt interstellar. The elongated sunglasses reinforce that idea, but when paired with elegant ball gowns, feathered waists, and garden dresses, all coded in a summery yet dark palette, the result is unmistakably Balenciaga. The silhouettes breathe; the body commits to a vision projected toward the future while remaining in constant dialogue with its roots.

Balenciaga by Pierpaolo Piccioli marks a turning point in how creative directors rewrite their own rules. And yes—this is only the beginning of a union we can’t wait to see evolve.
