In his Couture Spring 2025 presentation, Rahul Mishra elevated us to the world's tallest skyscrapers. Now, at Fall/Winter 2025 Haute Couture Week, the journey is internal. Drawing inspiration from Sufi philosophy, "Becoming Love" traces the evolution of love through its seven stages: attraction, infatuation, surrender, reverence, devotion, obsession, and finally, death.
Like much of the internal process that leads us to spirituality, Mishra takes abstract elements from artists like Gustav Klimt to create embellished and culturally rich motifs that reflect the diversity of India. This time, the collection's artisanal focus transcends to the sensory plane with three-dimensional halos and golden nature sculptures that embrace the body, as if in communion with the human.
The collection aims to bring love back into the news, to be treated as a celebration of Indian culture, and to meet the two specifications we already know of the brand: narrative and a daring, extravagant artisanal execution. His shorter dresses symbolize the flow of the aura and its reflection with moonlight, featuring intricate embroideries that elevate them to the category of Haute Couture.
Each stage of love has its emblematic dress, and knowing the information beforehand, it's easy for the eye to distinguish the evolution of the feeling, especially with his levitating rose dresses. It starts with abundance, moves through flow, the mesmerizing obsession that transfers Klimt's paintings to the aura of the dresses, all the way to death, culminating in a stark and decorated black tone.
The 37 looks present in this collection defy gravity but remain within the aura of each human who wears them. They acquire meaning with the body and certainly speak to you, depending on the stage of love you're in. Rahul Mishra reminds us that his designs create introspection and are a tribute to his roots. His universe expands, and our concept of him increasingly encompasses much more than a simple concept.
