In a world where some artists are battling DALL-E and dissertations are being written by ChatGPT, there are still those striving to forge a lasting bond between humans and their digital counterparts—dreamers aiming to bridge the gap between creator and tool, between users and emotionless virtual slaves (like my ex).

However, some individuals have chosen to take these relationships to an extreme that makes me wonder if we’d have been better off stuck in the Dark Ages. I’m talking specifically about artist Alicia Framis, who, on November 9, will marry Ailex, her AI-generated holographic boyfriend. Rejoice!

The ceremony, which will take place at the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, marks the next step in Framis’ “Hybrid Couple” experiment—a project exploring the practicality of posthuman entities in daily life (an adventure that might just be an introvert’s perfect excuse to never deal with another human being again; and if so, I wouldn’t blame her).

It’s worth noting that Ailex, Alicia’s fiancé, was programmed by the artist using profiles from her past boyfriends, giving us a glimpse of what her future marriage might look like.

Currently, according to the *Daily Mail*, Ailex is brought to life by an animator, but Framis hopes to create a home where the love of her life can be projected onto any surface (which opens up like a lot of possibilities). Check out Alicia’s Instagram for a closer look at their interaction.

For now, all we can do is wish the couple a happy future, and maybe, as Framis suggests, this kind of experiment could one day help lonely people who need companionship.
