Almond-topped, sugar-dusted, filled, with chocolate, butter, some even say sourdough… Pan de Muerto is that seasonal must-have, perfect for our ofrendas and an ideal pairing for our favorite hot drink.
If you’re on a diet, this definitely isn’t the text for you—or maybe it is; dieting is so vintage, right? In no particular order, here’s our list of what we consider the best Pan de Muerto in CDMX. Not only are they delicious, but each pastry also showcases the originality and style of its bakery, YOOMI.
1. Odette.
Talking about this bakery is synonymous with DELICIOUS. All year, they offer top-notch flavors, and Día de Muertos is the perfect opportunity to show off. This year, their praline- and vanilla-filled bread is simply divine.
2. Croasán.
One of the favorite bakeries in Coyoacán and Pedregal has the perfect mix: soft, buttery Pan de Muerto paired with hot chocolate. Simple but full of flavor.
3. Rosseta.
Of course, this one had to be on the list: with options like amaranth, totomoxtle ash, or sugar, their breads delight everyone who visits. If you’re in the mood for a real twist, don’t miss the ice cream-filled version.
4. Pastelería Cardin.
Remember, one of our top criteria is ORIGINALITY. Cardin earns an honorable mention with its guava, spice, and piloncillo bread, which is not only beautiful but an explosion of flavor. You have to try it!
5. Mignon.
Don’t be fooled: while it has a unique presentation closer to a cupcake than the traditional shape, the fillings are out of this world. Our favorite is the lavender.
And if you’re in the mood for more, don’t forget to visit the Pan de Muerto and Chocolate Fair at Lic. Primo de Verdad No. 2, Centro Histórico, Mexico City. We hope you enjoy our recommendations, and if you go, let us know if you liked them!
