Fashion is a universe of unique elegance and beauty, of an appeal that invites us to dream, experiment, and explore the immensity of our creative capacity. Music is a cosmos in constant expansion. Full of stories, mysteries, and places to explore. It inspires us, guides us, shelters us, and expands our frontiers offering us endless possibilities, or, well, genres: rock, metal, pop, funk, mariachi, banda… or, of course, corridos tumbados.
When these two art giants meet, style and rhythm, wonderful things happen.
With our July 2023 issue, we want to celebrate the artistry behind luxury and what’s created with passion. We want – in a nutshell – to celebrate fashion at its purest and music at its most authentic and disruptive state.
In pursuit of this goal, we joined forces with Saint Laurent, a brand with a history and heritage founded on distinction, good taste, and minimalism, to bring to life a narrative starring Natanael Cano, a Mexican singer-songwriter who, just as the creative directors do season after season, shapes spectacular and diverse narratives with each of his songs.
Since his first album, Todo es Diferente, released in 2019, and with his most recent release, Nata Montana, Natanael has become a benchmark in his genre, achieving numerous awards and nominations: at Premios Juventud and Premios Lo Nuestro, Latin Billboards, Latin American Music Awards or MTV EMA’s, to name a few.
With his last album alone, Natanael completely took over the Spotify Top 50 in Mexico, placing the corrido tumbados genre – which he started, by the way – even higher. All this hand in hand with other musicians such as Gabito Ballesteros, Tito Torbellino JR, Hernan Trejo, Amilkar, Peso Pluma, Luis R Conriquez, Junior H, Chino Pacas or Dan Sanchez.

Natanael’s prolific career led him to make the leap from music to the small screen, joining the cast of the HBO comedy VGLY and playing the role of Lil Vato.
The union between Saint Laurent and Natanael, which had already taken place in Marrakech during the Spring/Summer 2023 men’s collection show, designed by Anthony Vaccarello, expands and evolves with The Walk and its editor-in-chief and creative director, Alejandro Acero, allowing us to witness a story of distinction and luxury, where the creative processes are the main subject.
THE WALK: Of all your musical production, which song has the most emotional value for you?
NATANAEL CANO: “Mi Bello Angel”. For this one, I think I fell in love or something because I changed the tone of what I had in mind for Nata Montana.
TW: How does it make you feel that, in a matter of months, Mexico has leaned more towards the corrido genre than others, such as reggaeton?
NC: Long live the Mexican flag! Long live los corridos! It’s something special for me because, at the end of the day, although the genre has a negative stigma because of its lyrics, it’s a genre that originates in Mexico and is connected to other cultures, other genres, and other consumers. History keeps repeating itself, making it clear that music is universal.
TW: Who inspired you to start in music?
NC: The music itself. The guitar.
TW: What was your process for writing Nata Montana?
NC: This time I was able to work on this album in a different way. I wrote and recorded it in Hermosillo, in my house. With all the plebes there I sat and wrote.
TW: What’s the message you are trying to share with this new album?
NC: That corridos tumbados are still in my life and always will be. That although some songs were more about love than others, the jams represent pure CT [Corrido Tumbado].
TW: What places, things, or moments do you look to for inspiration when starting your creative process?
NC: Life, experiences, memories, chicks, and our culture, no more.

TW: What do you think is the future of corridos in Mexico and what’s your role in this same future?
NC: There’re too many talented plebes who are currently giving their all, like Gabito, and I really can’t tell you what the future holds, but I do know that the evolution of corridos, the tumbados, and all these more evolved styles, like Yahritza y Su Esencia and Hernán Trejo, etc., are shaping the genre’s history. My role in all of this has been to plant the flag for corridos tumbados and have made this movement available to the world.
TW: How would you describe your personal style?
NC: Hehehehehe, relaxed luxury. And sneakers lover… I have too many!
TW: How has your style evolved over the years?
NC: I like a lot of designers and I’m more like a street style guy, but lately I’m liking more couture stuff, like in this shoot with The Walk, things that I didn’t think ha.would look good on me ended up looking cool. It’s like an alter ego. Hahaha
