There is a fleeting quality to light that makes it infinitely compelling. Anthony Vaccarello understands this premise perfectly, reminding us that what passes often leaves a far brighter trail than what remains. With that philosophy in mind, Saint Laurent's creative director has chosen to illuminate the Summer 2027 season by turning to the only color capable of manifesting such magic: gold. Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent himself harbored a confessed fascination for the hue, once declaring it the color of the sun when reflecting upon a woman. Today, that historical fixation enters uncharted territory. If in past seasons Vaccarello proved the power of repetition through infinitely elongated silhouettes or the absolute dominance of black, his narrative tool this time is a pigment that alchemically transforms everything it touches.

Far from utilizing golden flashes as mere decorative accents, the collection immerses itself in them from head to toe. The result is an exhaustive study of light that travels through every conceivable era. On the runway, the eye catches Byzantine and Renaissance inspirations, pale nuances, matte finishes, Art Deco glimmers, and almost Brutalist executions. This magnetic aura completely envelops the great archetypes that have defined the maison's wardrobe over the decades. We see the classic sahariennes, wrap skirts, trenches, and blouses from Yves’ foundational era coexisting naturally with Vaccarello's own modern classics: imposing strong-shouldered coats, voluminous blousons, and sharply tailored suits edged with swathes of fur.

The visual richness of the proposal is sustained by textile development that borders on haute couture standards, yet keeps its feet firmly planted in the reality of today's women. Gold adopts a new personality with every single look through fabrics like lamé, organza, guipure lace, brocade, and metallic cotton, reaching its most audacious peak in seductive latex pieces coated in gold leaf. This tactile feast extends directly into the accessories, injecting a dose of maximalist opulence via monumental, jeweled filigree earrings. Grounding the looks, the seductive danger so characteristic of Saint Laurent manifests in shoes constructed from gilded metallic chains, resting on unsettling, twisting snake heels.

Just as the spectator assumes the golden glow will be inexhaustible, the designer executes a masterful pivot into darkness. The runway's finale gives way to absolute black, a color that absorbs the surrounding energy with the same force that gold projects it. An unmistakable velvet suit featuring jewel buttons pays a final tribute to traditional YSL heritage, while a trio of evening dresses—dark as nimbus clouds and constructed with an almost impulsive freedom—reveal Vaccarello’s deep Belgian roots. As the curtain falls, the collection serves as a poignant reminder that the most brilliant fashion knows exactly when to turn off the light to leave a lasting impression.
