PRESENCE AND ABSENCE: A SPECTACULAR SHOW BY VIKTOR & ROLF - COUTURE FALL 2025

Two opposing dresses presented simultaneously: one filled in various forms, the other pure absence and just the natural drape of oversize patterns. Viktor & Rolf, as usual, present an innovative performance at Paris Couture Week Fall/Winter 2025, where two identical dresses appear more different than ever.

Under the motto "feathers do much more than embellish, they define," Viktor & Rolf, a house always recognized for its audacity in experimenting with silhouettes, presented "Angry Birds" on a black stage with two blue doors. Each door showcased the same black dress, with one major difference: vibrant feathers filled and adorned one of them, while the other fell into the absence of filling.

The avian headpieces were crafted by the legendary Stephen Jones, who did a vivid job with the vibrant colors (found in nature itself) that simulated the subtle and elegant, yet sometimes conspicuous, presence of these animals. This complemented the filling material that emerged, sometimes as a complete feather and other times as strips hand-stitched onto the body of the dress.

The result of this runway show was 30 ensembles, 15 pairs with twin techniques. The unpadded dresses represented the quiet shadow and the antithesis of the volume and noise of colors. No less striking, these ensembles proved to be one hundred percent functional, adapting to the modern flowy and oversize silhouette with textiles that ranged from leather, silk, and mesh.

Viktor & Rolf always find ways to impress us. In every Haute Couture show, they have a clear understanding of what extravagance means, and yet they continue to experiment with concepts and starting with a basic garment. This collection demonstrates the potential that exists in presence and absence, and it's fascinating to witness.
