GARETH PUGH'S ICONIC B&W INTERPRETATION THAT IMPRESSED THE WORLD

Gareth Pugh, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé

Created to kick off a world tour, these constructions make an immediate impact, transporting us to the universe of performance artists and those involved in the creation and design of these architectural pieces. As an audience, we observe and these images remain etched in our memories for years (or centuries) without knowing who was responsible for such a feat.

Gareth Pugh is responsible for elevating architectural and futuristic design in pop culture. With custom-made outfits for Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, and Nicki Minaj, he has maintained relevance through imposing, robotic, and animalistic silhouettes inspired by the London nightlife scene and figures from the club kid movement like Leigh Bowery, as well as the reimagining of historical garments.

But it was a creation worn by Lady Gaga at the premiere party for her ARTPOP album in 2013 that made fashion experts take a second look at Pugh's 2007 Ready-To-Wear collection, where latex-masked aliens, dominatrixes, and party monsters made their presence felt.

The collection was dominated by a charming alien whose 3D figures patterned its skirt and sleeves, allowing us to fall in love with an artist who, in 2007, played with exaggerated shapes and silhouettes, as well as plastic and latex materials and textiles, which were limited in accessibility at the time. Gareth presented a collection with humor, a unique proposition, and a transformative nature whose philosophy lies in fashion's ability to transform and create a new being.

The icing on the cake is the uniqueness of all the collections shown by Gareth in 2007. Within the visual characteristics, we find white, black, silver, transparencies, and iridescence, helping to highlight the work of tailoring and modeling, giving it a unique identity as a promise of the anti-fashion movement.

Even after announcing his hiatus, Gareth Pugh has worked on exclusive pieces for Beyoncé's latest tours, and his return is expected soon. What will this rebirth be like? We can only wait with anticipation.
